The Netflix-Style Pricing

On February 14, 2026, Tesla discontinued the $8,000 one-time purchase option for Full Self-Driving and moved to a $99/month subscription model only.

The New Reality

No more upfront option: The technology can no longer be added as an optional extra during vehicle purchase for a one-off payment.

Monthly only: $99/month in the US (expected £75-£99 in UK, $149 in Australia).

Why The Change

Either Tesla finally admitted FSD isn't worth $8,000 upfront given its current capabilities, or too few buyers were willing to pay that much. Moving to subscriptions means customers pay a "fairer price over the life of their vehicle" for technology many rival manufacturers now offer for free.
